Our readers nominated the top 15 takeaways in Cam and Dursley, Thornbury, Yate and Sodbury, and we’ve been profiling each of them so you can choose the Gazette Series Best Takeaway 2021 winner.

This week we’re showcasing venues in and around Dursley, including Wotton British Takeaway, a family-run business which has been serving fish and chips in High Street for almost two decades.

Though owner Chris Onisiforou had to close the business for six weeks during the first lockdown, he reopened the shop with click-and-collect and delivery services and hasn’t looked back since.

“Deliveries and click and collect have picked up immensely, we should have put on deliveries years ago, but it was a case of having to,” he said.

“It’s a bigger team now than it was before lockdown,” commenting on the extra staff he has hired to make deliveries and keep up with demand.

“I feel very good,” said Chris after finding out Wotton British Takeaway had made it to the last 15 in our competition.

“We’ve had great support from our customers and the surrounding area. We’re very happy.

“I want to thank them for their support.”

Asked how he would feel if he won, Chris said: “It would be great; fantastic. It’s been a lot of hard work, so it would be brilliant.”
