Thornbury Radio will be launching on FM in June.

Ofcom granted the station a full-time FM broadcasting licence last year, bringing to an end a long-running battle.

Thornbury Radio has been broadcasting online 24 hours a day for the last few years but, as of Monday, June 7, it will also be available on on 105.1 FM and 107.5 FM.

The FM service is designed to cover Thornbury and surrounding villages – including Alveston, Olveston, Tytherington, Oldbury-on-Severn, Leyhill, Wickwar, Bagstone and Iron Acton.

David Wrench, director of the station, said: “This is the culmination of a 16-year journey from the Thornbury FM and Gloss FM restricted service broadcasts to the launch of Thornbury Radio.

"Now everyone in the community of Thornbury and the surrounding villages will have their very own 24 hour, seven days a week FM service.

"To get to this point has only been possible through the efforts of many volunteers and supporters."

The station's studios, based on The Plain, will become fully operational in May 2021. This has been made possible thanks to the a partnership with Simpson’s solicitors.

John Baden-Daintree LL.B., solicitor and associate director, said: “Simpson Solicitors is excited to be supporting Thornbury Radio’s launch on FM radio.

"It will provide the Thornbury community with a fantastic central focus based in the heart of Thornbury, that can support all of the many community groups."

The station’s FM launch date is Monday 7th June 2021. You can then listen to Thornbury Radio – Your Choice, Your Voice! thanks to the transmitters the team have built.

Over the years more than 300 volunteers have delivered local radio programming on the station and bosses are aware there is a lot of work to do to ensure the success of the station after launch, from training volunteer presenters, through to station admin and ongoing maintenance of the technical kit.

Anyone interested in getting involved should visit thornbury.radio and complete the volunteer form.
