A 25-year-old Plymouth man has been charged with attempted arson with intent to endanger life after a lit item was put under an occupied police van during the riots in Bristol on March 21.

The incident happened in Bridewell Street, Bristol, Sunday, March 21 after peaceful 'Kill the Bill' demonstrations descended into violent disorder.

Ryan Paul Roberts, of Madeira Road in Plymouth, has also been charged with violent disorder, two counts of criminal damage and two counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

He’s been remanded in custody to appear at Bristol Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

Avon and Somerset police have also arrested three other people on suspicion of violent disorder – two men and a woman. They’ve all been released under investigation.

In total, 29 people have now been arrested in connection with the incident.
