The Downs in Wickwar will be closed from today to repair and replace drainage pipes.

The work is part of the Council’s Flood Resilience Project, funded by the Department for Transport’s (DfT) local highway maintenance challenge fund scheme.

From today the B4509 The Downs will be closed to traffic, between its junction with High Street and Station Road and its junction with Westend Road, Wickwar, for approximately two weeks.

The next phase is currently planned from Monday, April 19 when The Downs will be closed to traffic, between its junction with Westend Road, Wickwar, and the entrance to the quarry, for approximately three weeks.

From Monday, May 10 temporary traffic lights will be in operation along the B4509 The Downs, between its junction with the B4058 and the entrance to the quarry, for approximately four weeks. These lights will need to remain in place around the clock. During this time, it may also be necessary to close the road at certain times.

In a final stage from Monday, August 2 The Downs will be closed to traffic, between its junction with the B4058 and its junction with Westend Road, for approximately 14 weeks.

A signed diversion route is in operation via the B4060 Wickwar Road, Peg Hill, the B4059 and the B4058. Access to properties and businesses will be maintained as much as possible.

Bus services that currently travel along the road will need to be diverted. Further information is available on the Travelwest website, visit www.travelwest.info/travel-updates.
