Gazette best takeaway: Will Henry's Oriental get your vote?

Today we’re showcasing Henry’s Oriental, a popular choice for Chipping Sodbury residents which Henry Wong has been running for the last 11 years.

Henry’s Oriental offered takeaways before the pandemic but only for customers who found it hard to access the restaurant on the first floor or for catering special occasions.

“March last year was a really worrying time for all our team. We’d just celebrated 10 years of being open and closing down the restaurant without knowing for how long was really daunting,” said Henry.

“We, like most people, didn’t realise a year on we would still be waiting for things to return to normal.”

During lockdown, takeaway was the only part of the business which Henry was able to operate, which grew to include former dine-in customers and new customers too.

Henry and his team began making more deliveries to help people stay safe at home and offered free deliveries to customers who were isolating.

“We’ve been lucky enough to keep all our team working throughout the pandemic and we’re still here because of our community,” Henry said.

“Our business has survived this last year through the support of our amazing customers, it could have been such a different story.

“It was such a lovely surprise to find out we had been nominated for The Gazette Series Best Takeaway, alongside so many other great local business.

“We would like to thank everyone who thought of and nominated us when reading about the award.

“Our team are so proud of what we do, and to hear other people think we were worthy of a nomination was brilliant."
