Two winners of the Thornbury Radio Easter competition have been announced.

The radio station asked local primary school children to explain in a 15 second voice recording why they thought Easter was so special.

Mawgan Smart and Sienna Dario were chosen as winners, each receiving an Easter egg.

Mawgan, 10, from Almondsbury Primary School, said: “I like Easter because it is a time to be with family and friends, to get chocolate eggs and time off school.

"And we can also realise how lucky we are as Jesus sacrificed his own life for us.”

Sienna, nine, from Christ the King Primary School said: “I like Easter because you get to look for Easter eggs in your garden.

"You can have a barbecue and the whole family comes together.”

Nigel Lane, presenter of Thornbury Radio's Sunday breakfast show, said: “It was lovely to hear what Easter meant to our winners.

"Thornbury Radio is pleased to give young people in our area a voice on air.

"It is really exciting to hear your own voice on the radio for you, your family, friends and the community too.

"Talking on local radio builds confidence, develops creativity and is also great fun."

The station, which broadcasts 24-hours-a-day online, recently announced it would be launching on FM in June.
