A man in his 30s remains in custody on suspicion of attempted murder after police have been granted more time to question him following a suspected stabbing yesterday in Gloucestershire.

A man suffered serious injuries in the assault which investigating officers believe was a targeted attack.

This happened between 4.25pm and 4.45pm in the area of Bamfurlong Lane and Badgeworth Road heading towards Cheltenham.

Last night police issued an appeal for dashcam footage relating to the incident which involved a 2011 black Ford Focus and a 2006 grey Vauxhall Astra.

It was reported that after a collision one of the drivers violently assaulted the other, with the victim suffering injuries including suspected stab wounds. He has since been discharged from hospital.

Detective Inspector Paula Hannaford from the Constabulary’s CID said: "This incident happened in rush-hour traffic and understandably would have been alarming to those who saw what took place.

"I would like to thank the numerous people who called us immediately and provided information or helped at the scene.

"Following a fast-paced investigation we now believe that this was a targeted attack, rather than a random road rage incident.

"We've been granted a 12-hour custody extension and therefore the man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder remains in police custody for questioning.”
