Stratford Park Leisure Centre is set to relaunch group exercise classes on May 17.

Run by Everyone Active in partnership with Stroud District Council, the leisure centre confirmed the date after the Government re-committed to the third stage of their roadmap out of lockdown.

The news comes in Mental Health Awareness week, and research commissioned by ukactive shows 63 per cent of people said taking part in physical activity with others could help with feelings of loneliness.

Jamie Nesbit, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “We are delighted to be able to safely resume group exercise classes in our centre.

“Aside from the obvious physical benefits, this will be a huge boost for mental health and wellbeing in Stroud and comes at an apt time following the start of Mental Health Awareness Week.

“Many of our customers thrive on the social element of exercise, not just for motivational reasons but also because they enjoy seeing friendly faces in a familiar environment.

“With social contact having been limited over the past year, the ability to mix safely with other members of the community will be appreciated by many.”

Labour Group Leader Doina Cornell said: “The value of exercise and the social interaction that comes with group exercise cannot be underestimated, and I know this will help many of us feel like we are getting back to normal.”

Customers wishing to attend group exercise classes are required to book in advance via the Everyone Active website or mobile app.
