A POPULAR walking festival that takes walkers on a journey around the Cotswold AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) will return next month.

The annual Wotton-Under-Edge Walking Festival is set to take place from Friday, June 11 to Sunday, June 13, with more than 20 guided walks on offer, to help people get out and about after months of lockdown.

There will be a variety of short, medium and longer walks each day, all led by volunteer walk leaders and often with an interesting theme.

These include walks suitable for children and families, walks that welcome well behaved dogs, and a dawn chorus walk.

One highlight is the listening night walk. Led by Jacqui Griffiths, participants will set off as the light falls and the birds settle.

“We can walk along thinking all is quiet and there’s not much happening. Then we turn on the bat detector,” said Jacqui.

“Come along and enjoy the amazing soundscape of the bat world.”

The popular making art walk also makes a welcome return.

Taking place on Sunday, June 13, this walk covers around four miles but has six 15 minute stops for people to be creative.

All the walks are free to join, although donations will be collected on each walk to help to fund this and future festivals. Most walks have maximum numbers and need to be booked. See wottonwalkingfestival.com for details.
