The first cases of the Indian variant in South Gloucestershire have been detected by Public Health England.
The agency recorded 20 cases in the area up until June 2, meaning South Gloucestershire has the third highest number of cases in the South West.
Neighbouring Stroud recorded five cases of the variant, and Bristol 59.
The highest number of cases in the South West were reported in Bristol and the second highest was reported in Swindon, with 39.
Gloucester recorded 16 cases, Wiltshire 15 and Exeter 5, while the following areas recorded between one and four:
Bath and North East Somerset; Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole; Cheltenham; Cornwall; the Forest of Dean; Mendip; North Somerset; Plymouth; Somerset West and Taunton; Teignbridge; Torbay.
The exact number of cases in these locations is not public in order to avoid identifying anyone who has tested positive.
Any areas of the South West not listed above have not recorded any cases of the Indian variant as of June 2.
