A drunk man shouted racially abusive comments at a Tesco employee in Wotton-under-Edge.

The man reportedly entered Tesco Express on Long Street at around 6.20pm on Sunday and attempted to buy a bottle of wine but was refused by an employee for already being intoxicated.

The employee stopped the man who went on to shout a number of racially abuse comments at them.

A 49-year-old man of no fixed abode was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released on bail until the end of this month.

A number of members of the public were in the shop at the time and investigating officers are asking anyone who witnessed this taking place to please come forward.
