CHIPPING Sodbury's carnival has been cancelled for the second year in a row due to the pandemic.

Following Prime Minister Boris Johnson's announcement last Monday, organisers of the carnival made the decision to cancel after the lifting of coronavirus restrictions was postponed until July.

The carnival and street fair were due to be held on June 26, with step four of the roadmap out of lockdown due to take place on June 21.

The decision to cancel the carnival and street fair was‘difficult and timely' and followed a discussion between Chipping Sodbury Lions Club and South Gloucestershire Council.

Chipping Sodbury Lions Club President Ian Gott said: “It’s with a heavy heart that we have to let you all know that this year's carnival will not go ahead and will be postponed until 2022 when we will be back with a real bang.

"We want to thank you all and everyone for the support you have given us through the years in putting on the event. Stay safe everyone.”

"We can only hope that Chipping Sodbury Carnival will return next year."

Chipping Sodbury Festival organisers echoed the sentiment saying: "Thanks to all who have worked hard in the background organising the carnival and all those who wanted to take part."
