A man was repeatedly punched in the head during an attack by two strangers along the canal in Stroud.

Two men were walking on the path close to WSP Textiles at around 11.40pm on Friday night when they were approached by two men riding mountain bikes.

One of the pedestrians was verbally abused by the two cyclists, who then kicked him in the legs and punched him repeatedly to the head.

As a result, the victim suffered bruising to his knee and temple, and a cut to the forehead.

The two suspects cycled off in the direction of Cainscross Road.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who may have CCTV in the area to come forward.
