Over the last year there hasn't been much opportunity for celebration and one cricket club is determined to make up for lost time.

Rockhampton Cricket Club are hosting The Big Celebration this Saturday night.

The event will feature a fun casino with roulette and blackjack, a state of the art photo booth and live music from singer Gary Priestley.

The idea is to help people commemorate big life events that have been missed due to the pandemic.

Among the club's membership people have missed celebrating their 21st, 30th, 40th, 50th and 80th birthdays, while at least two couples have missed significant wedding anniversaries.

Those to have missed out include Ken Williams, father of club chairman Ian, who was unable to celebrate turning 80.

Julie Mackinnon, wife of the club's social secretary Richard, was unable to hold her 40th birthday party in November despite it having been planned 18 months in advance.

"We are hoping it will be a good fundraiser for our club as well as putting the smiles back on the face of many who have felt their big celebration has passed by without note," said Richard.

The event is being held at the club's Boundary Field home from 7.30pm on Saturday.

Tickets cost £10 for adults and are free for children. For more details call Richard on 07884 066882.
