TRIBUTES have been paid to a much-loved Chipping Sodbury schoolteacher who has died following a short battle with cancer.

Beryl Campbell, who will be remembered as both Miss Roberts and Mrs Campbell, passed away on Tuesday, July 13.

She worked in Reading, Coalville, Brislington and Yate over her 39-year career, as well as going on to work as a supply teacher across South Gloucestershire.

Beryl became deputy head of Raysfield Infants School in April 1981, becoming acting head from September 1985 to April 1986.

In May 1987 she was made captain of the Raysfield Skittles Team for the Chipping Sodbury Festival. It was here that she met Charles, who had organised it, and romance blossomed. They married in the October of that year.

Beryl continued as deputy head until she left to start her family in December 1988. Her son Tom was born in 1989 followed by Gareth in 1990. As soon as Gareth started school in 1995 Beryl found herself a new career as a supply teacher in Bromley Heath Infants School, Pucklechurch, and finally in Meadowbrook School in Bradley Stoke where she had a senior management role.

She retired on her 60th birthday in 2009. In her retirement she enjoyed attending all the Chipping Sodbury Yacht Club events.

Her husband Charles said: “She inspired and raised the aspirations of hundreds of pupils and influenced many of her colleagues who will remember her fondly as spreading joy and good sense wherever she went.

“Beryl touched the hearts of so many people throughout her life and will always be remembered with joy.”
