A GROUP of doctors and medical staff from Dursley are taking on a walking challenge to help the homeless.

This September, Dr Silvana Romero Brown and her colleagues from the Walnut Tree Practice at May Lane Surgery in Dursley are going above and beyond to help the community.

After a busy week at the surgery, they’ll be donning their walking boots on Sunday, September 26, to trek 20 miles up hills and down valleys around the outskirts of Bath to raise money and awareness to support local homeless and domestic abuse charity Julian House.

The popular Circuit of Bath Walk, which is in its 20th year, will see the group, along with fellow participants, traversing the challenging but stunning countryside that surrounds the historic city.

With some steep ascents to Lansdown and the misleadingly named Little Solsbury Hill, the group are determined to complete the full 20 miles and to raise as much sponsorship as possible to support Julian House and those in its services.

Dr Romero Brown said: “We’ve been looking for a challenge to do together and something inspiring to do for ourselves and others.

“We appreciate the impact and important work that Julian House does for some of the most vulnerable people in our society, and the direct impact that Covid has had on this population.

“The pandemic has been tough on all care professionals and although together we have kept each other going, we are all feeling the strain still. This is a good opportunity for us to recharge and have some fun. We hope to raise at least £500 but fingers crossed for more.”

Every year Julian House supports over 1,800 people through accommodation, support work and training opportunities.
