A man has appeared in court via video link accused of murdering a South Gloucestershire mother and her child and hiding their bodies under his kitchen floor in Dundee, the BBC has reported.

Andrew Innes is accused of killed Bennylyn Burke, 25, and her child Jellica Burke, who lived in Kingswood, South Gloucestershire.

It is alleged Innes murdered Bennylyn and Jellica at a house in Troon Avenue, Dundee and then put their bodies in bags and buried them in concrete.

The defendant did not make a plea against the charges and the case will resume on December 1.

Mr Innes is also accused of sexually assaulting Jellica and another child.

The alleged murders are said to have taken place between February 20 and March 5.

In April, friends of Ms Burke and her daughter attended a vigil in their memory, held at Brandon Hill park in Bristol.

It took place on the grass below Cabot Tower, where they had previously met and enjoyed picnics together.

Candles and flowers were placed on a red blanket on the ground, along with pictures of Ms Burke and Jellica, a teddy bear and placards.

White balloons tied to a nearby tree read: “You are loved, You are Missed, You are Remembered.”
