Yate Town 0 Yeovil Town 5 Report by John Davis

Yeovil's high octane opening spell proved pivotal in halting Town's highly creditable and money spinning run in the country's premier knockout cup competition, writes John Davis.

The National League side were three goals in front in the first thirty minutes and although the home side stuck to the task resolutely there was only going to be one final outcome.

An early Joe Tumelty corner caused some early defending for the visitors but when they broke to the other end Andy Hannah had to be alert to touch over a rising drive from Tom Knowles.

Yeovil opened the scoring on eight minutes, the ball bobbling about in the box after a corner before Matt Worthington drove it home through a mass of legs in the crowded goalmouth.

The green waves continued to roll in and Charlie Wakefield made it 2-0 soon afterwards as the home side lost the ball in midfield and Dale Gorman picked out Wakefield with a pinpoint pass.

It was a piece of trickery from Worthington that set up the third goal. He went on a mazy run from midfield and, when he was upended inside the box, Gorman slotted home the resulting spot kick.

Yate then enjoyed their best spell of the game and could have reduced the arrears. Dave Sims-Burgess should have hit the target when played in up the right and James Harding got the ball into the net only to have his effort discounted for a handling offence.

Hannah was forced to save with his legs in Yeovil's first attack of the second half before it was 4-0 when Josh Staunton collected the ball on the by-line before setting up Adi Yusuf who was left with the simplest of tap-ins.

A fifth goal soon followed, Gorman working a short corner routine before Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, who had just come on as a substitute, dipped his shoulder to elude his marker before curling his shot past Hannan into the far corner.

Town battled to the last in search of some consolation. Sam Turl was tackled when he was about to fire off his shot from a good position and Olly Mehew saw his curling strike from the left saved by the diving Grant Smith.
