Yate Shopping Centre started Christmas early this weekend with a visit from Postman Pat followed by their virtual light-switch on.

Families attended the centre yesterday to post their letters to Santa with the help of Postman Pat before the centre switched their Christmas lights on, live on Facebook with a very special guest joining host James Murden for the event.

The Grinch switched on the lights across the centre in the second year the centre has opted to wait for the shops to close to go 'live' on Facebook so that people could enjoy the magic from their own homes. for a virtual light switch-on.

The live streamed switch-on also captured footage of Santa and his reindeer completing a test flight.

James Murden hosted the virtual event, he said: “We love bringing some festive cheer to the people of Yate and this year was no exception, hundreds of little ones wrote their letters to Santa and met Postman Pat and thousands tuned in to watch the naughty Mr Grinch help switch the lights on”
