A SET of road work markings have been the cause of some hilarity in Dursley.

Spray painted road work markings are codes for workers, and usually refer to the position of cables and pipes below the surface and are often marked out in advance of proposed works.

Earlier this week, one person went to all the trouble of creating a new set of markings near to Rednock School.

Located on Kingshill Road, these were for works to be carried out by Full Fibre broadband.

Although accurately drawn out, there was one huge flaw - they had been spray painted in blue on top of a layer of autumn leaves, and could have been blown or kicked away at any time.

Darren Horn spotted this and posted a photo of them on the Dursley Natters Facebook page, with the comment: "Engineers have marked out where they are to dig, outside Rednock school.

"Hope it's not windy tonight..."

The post was flooded with comments, including from one person who said: "The childish side of me really wants to play in the leaves."

Another said: "Enough already.... Just leaf it out!"

And Mark Hughes commented: "Definitely a classic example of 'Not my job mate'."

The Gazette got in touch with Full Fibre to see what they made of it.

Matt Smith, head of public procurement & engagement at Full Fibre said: "Thanks for this, it's given us a bit of a chuckle here too.

"The markings denote where we are locating a new fibre cabinet that will serve the whole of Cam and Dursley.

"It will be the principle element of our network which will extend the ability for every premise in town to access a fibre to the property connection which can provide speeds up to 1Gbps and both down and upload (far and away faster than the current connectivity available in the town).

"Rest assured, if the leaves blow away, we still have the location plans to enable the installation."
