A SHARPNESS school is celebrating its latest Osfted rating after a recent inspection.

Sharpness Primary School has been graded "good" by the education watchdog - having previously been graded "requires improvement".

The school's success at turning round its rating was revealed in Ofsted's report published on Friday (November 26), following a visit from inspectors on October 5 and 6.

Headteacher Helen said: "We are thrilled that the hard work, dedication and commitment of the whole school community has been validated and rewarded officially.

"The staff and children have worked tirelessly, especially over the past 18 months or so.

"The pandemic has been hard for the whole school community, and parents did a brilliant job in supporting their children at home when the school was partially closed.

"It has been a tricky time to navigate. However, we have been determined to provide children with as much normality as possible.

"Our children are amazing and have shown great resilience. We are so proud of them!

"We place a high priority on physical and mental wellbeing; these are essential for successful learning in all aspects of school life, and we are pleased that this has been recognised.

"We continuously strive to ensure that all of our children receive the best education possible, experiencing a broad and varied curriculum."

The changes the school made since the 2017 report were praised by Ofsted in their 2021 verdict.

Inspectors said in their new report: "Pupils enjoy being at this school. They feel safe and well looked after."

"There is a committed and passionate staff team whose members work well together and learn from each other. They share high expectations and ambitions for each child."

The behaviour at the school is described as good, with pupils "well mannered and polite".

The curriculum is said to be "well designed and clearly sets out the steps towards ongoing learning in each subject".

Pupils who fall behind are swiftly spotted by staff, who "ensure that pupils receive appropriate additional classroom support, or specific help, to catch up".

The importance placed on reading at the school was noted, with inspectors commenting: "The school prioritises reading and fosters a love of reading in the pupils."

And the report also stated that "staff encourage pupils to be responsible and respectful citizens."
