A rail passenger has been fined more than £200 after failing to buy a £4.50 ticket.

Lee Wilson was proven guilty in his absence by magistrates in Bristol on November 15.

The court heard the 39-year-old had travelled on a Great Western Railway train at Bristol Temple Meads without paying his £4.50 fare on March 3.

Wilson, of Whitefield Road, Bristol was fined £220 under the Regulation of Railways Act and ordered to pay compensation of £4.50.

He must also pay costs of £180 and a £34 victim surcharge - leaving him with a total bill of £438.50.
