A TEAM of women will run from a fire station in Bristol to Chipping Sodbury High Street carrying a 70kg log to raise money for research into one of the worlds rarest cancers.

24 women from across Yate and Sodbury will take on the brutal challenge that is notoriously used in military training to raise money for EHE Rare Cancer Charity.

The team will start at Temple Fire Station in Bristol and run to Chipping Sodbury High street to complete the half marathon distance.

Ex-Marine Lee Ralph formed Commando Bootcamp during the first lockdown to support the heath and wellbeing of a group of friends and used the log in a number of the training exercises.

He said the idea to use the log running to raise money for charity came after someone spotted the girls training with it and questioned where he could donate.

"It made us think we could use our team to help others and we truly hope people get behind the girls on Sunday," he added.

The team are raising money for EHE Rare Cancer Charity following the shock diagnosis of the disease 8 years ago, of a close friend of members of the group.

Nicola Henderson was  was diagnosed with Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma (EHE) a form of vascular cancer in May 2014 following the birth of her son, Owen after doctors found lesions in her liver.

She has since received a liver transplant but will live with condition and continues to fundraise annually for the research.
