MP LUKE Hall is leading a campaign against the proposed multi-storey tower block in the Yate.

Mr Hall has launched a petition against a developer’s proposal to build a multi-storey tower block in the centre of Yate and says thousands of residents have already signed to oppose the build.

Ninety five per cent of residents surveyed say they agreed with the MP that the community does not want or need the tower block in the area.

Mr Hall said he believes that a stand-alone tower block right in the heart of the community, would ‘dominate the skyline’ and be ‘completely out of keeping with the character of our town’.

He has also raised concerns that there appears to be no consideration of the increase in traffic, environmental damage, and the demand for extra parking that this tower block would create.

Mr Hall has now taken his petition and the views of residents to key decision makers at South Gloucestershire Council, and made it clear that plans for the block have been widely condemned by the community.

The MP is calling on SGC to reject any application for the structure.

Mr Hall said: “The incredible support has given me the clear evidence to demonstrate to developers and to South Gloucestershire Council that a multi-storey tower block is completely inappropriate for our town.
“I will leave them in no doubt about how strongly our community feels about this issue.”
