The Armstrong Arts Group in Thornbury are have announced a special show following the purchase of a baby grand piano.

The performers will present their 'Grand Piano Launch' as they prepare for another year of Arts events.

Thornbury has a proud history of presenting the Arts in all its forms especially at its treasured venue, The Armstrong Hall.

In spite of its current closure, many are working hard to enable its re-opening whilst using other venues around Thornbury to allow arts events to continue.

A spokeserson for the group said: "You may have seen our events highlighted in your local parish magazine or you may be one of our “regulars” who comes monthly to savour a musical or dramatic performance.

"We are here to keep the community in touch with the arts and the artists performing!

"Any funds raised will now be put into future events."

The Armstrong Arts Group, run by volunteers is now the proud owner of a Yamaha grand piano thatnks to a number of generous sponsors.

Local musician, Michael Lunts arranged the purchase of the piano, owned by the Armstrong Arts Group on behalf of the community.

This is now housed in the United Reformed Church in Thornbury and is available for use by all interested parties.

To celebrate the purchase there will be a special launch event on January 23 at 3.00pm in the URC.

'A Grand Opening for a Grand Piano' will feature performances by local musicians spanning the generations.

Michael can also be seen playing the instrument most Saturdays in the New Year as part of the URC’s coffee mornings from 10.00 to 12.00 noon.
