Work is set to start on 97 new homes as part of a project to expand the village of Cam.

The Millfields site by developer Linden Homes will provide 68 homes for private sale and 29 affordable homes.

These will be available to local people through rent or shared ownership.

Bovis Homes, which is part of the Vistry Group along with Linden Homes and Vistry Partnerships, is already building 141 homes at Millfields. The Linden Homes development will be built on an adjoining parcel of former agricultural land.

Both developments form part of the wider Millfields neighbourhood, which has outline planning permission for 450 new homes, two business parks and a landscaped riverside park.

Michele Davis, area sales director for Vistry Cotswolds, said: “With detailed planning permission in place for this new development, we are now preparing to start construction work on site imminently.

“The homes have been designed with an approach that is sympathetic to the character of the surrounding location, including stonework to the houses which face the River Cam.

“There is high demand for additional housing in Cam and we have sought to provide a good mix of three and four-bedroom houses that will appeal to a variety of buyers.

“Located next to the River Cam and lying at the foot of the Cotswolds hills, Millfields is not only providing new homes, but boosting the local economy through the delivery of new business parks and creating green spaces for the benefit of the whole community.”

As part of the planning agreement for the development, contributions of more than £400,000 will be paid to Gloucestershire County Council, including £278,072 for primary education, £77,862 to local pre-schools, and £44,100 towards library services.

The developer is also to deliver a footway/cycleway along the route of the disused railway, adjacent to the site, which will provide an access link from Box Road to the River Cam.

The affordable homes will range from one-bedroom apartments to two and three-bedroom houses. They will be managed by Bromford Housing Association.
