Dursley Rugby Club have achieved the remarkable feat of winning all 20 matches of their league season.

The men’s first team will compete in the Gloucester Premier League next season after topping Gloucestershire 1 South by 21 points.

It has been a good end to the season for the club in general with Dursley Ladies finishing their campaign with a 29-0 win over Old Bristolians and the men’s second team ending with a 36-26 victory over St Mary’s Old Boy’s 2nd’s.

The culmination of the season saw the men’s first team beat Ashley Downs Old Boys 22-10 to ensure their 100 per cent winning record remained in tact.

Dursley Rugby Club’s men’s section senior rugby manager, Josh Bailey, said: “It has been an absolute privilege for me to play for and witness the men’s section mature and flourish over the course of 2021/22, the end result being a historic unbeaten season, after what has been an incredibly challenging period with COVID and safety scrutiny within our sport.

“Fielding two competitive men’s teams is no mean feat and the fact that we are able to do so reflects massively on a number of factors – firstly the culture within our section as established by our coach, management and senior players.

“Secondly, and perhaps most significantly, is how this impeccable season is a product of a phenomenal club set-up.

“Across the 39 players representing Dursley men this weekend, 29 are products of the Dursley RFC mini and youth system which continues to blossom and excel within the county.

“The success of this season is a direct consequence of the strength and commitment of so many that have contributed to the club during its history.

“When you can look around a group of players and identify 29 individuals across two teams that have matured through the club set-up then, as a community, we have something exceptional to protect, promote and encourage.”

With the league now over, the club will be competing in the Stroud District Combination Cup with the 1st XV, 2nd XV and 3rd XV being represented across the Senior, Junior and Bill Adams cups, a competition the 1st XV have won every occurrence of since the 2014/15 season.

“This also serves as a reminder to people old and new to the area, if you are interested in starting or returning to rugby we are always looking to expand our rugby family from Tots, through mini’s & youth, colts, women’s and men’s rugby so please get in touch and see what we can offer,” Josh added.
