A MUCH-LOVED community midwife from Yate has announced her retirement after a 'fulfilling, magical career' spanning four decades for the NHS.

Alison Frost, said she has had a ball as a community midwife at Yate West Gate Centre but has decided to retire after thirty years to spend more time with her family .

Alison, is well known across Yate and Chipping Sodbury having delivered hundreds of babies and giving antenatal and postnatal care to thousands of mothers in the area.

The trusted and dedicated midwife said each woman she has cared for and each birth experience she has supported has been special.

"Developing that very special relationship with the woman has made my career magical. I have had an absolute ball. I will remember them all," she said.

Alison said she had the team of midwives she trained with to thank for inspiring her to get into the profession over thirty years ago.

"Having worked for the NHS for almost 40 years and been a midwife for over 30 years, 20 of those at Yate, I feel its time to retire," she said.

"I wanted to say a "big thank you" to all those inspiring midwives I started my midwifery training with, those who inspired me to be the best I could be, to always be the woman's advocate and to continually ask questions and to challenge decisions.

"I have had the enormous privilege to work with truly fantastic midwives"

Her time in the profession has allowed her to care for women and then their daughters when they have gone on to have children of their own.

"I also wish to thank all those many lovely strong women whom I have cared for and shared with their antenatal, birth and postnatal experiences and to have shared and cared for women and their families during many home birth episodes, each one has been so special."

AHowever, all good things must come to an end and I have made the decision to retire and to put my family and garden first and to continue to teach Hypnobirthing.

So, once again I thank you all my lovely ladies and your families for truly making my work life so enjoyable, so fulfilling and so happy.
