HUGE celebrations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee are set to go ahead after an entertainment committee decided to reform in Wickwar.

The Wickwar Entertainment Committee or WEC, have regrouped for the first time since 2020 to host a five-day jubilee extravaganza to marks the Queen's 70th year in reign.

Celebrations will begin on Thursday, June 2 with a platinum ball hosted at a marquee at the King George V Playing Field.

On Friday locals will be treated to a beer and cider festival with live music throughout the day. before a family day commences with a fancy dress and crown competition at Cotswold View on the Saturday.

A team will also plant a tree as part of the Queens Green Canopy and a tile mural is set to be unveiled after a donation of 200 tiled for children and adults to design to commemorate the occasion.

A spokesperson for the event said: "There will be lots of free games for children to enjoy along with the old favourite Donkey Rides , Bouncy Castle, and Face Painting .

"The friends of Wickwar Church will be on hand with their beautiful cakes and scones for everyone to enjoy along with other food and side stalls .

"We hope to see as many of our Villagers as possible over the weekend especially for the clearing up !

"We have had some wonderful sponsors and we could not have done this without them."

To round off the weekend, the church will hold their Sunday service inside the marquee.
