GOLFERS taking part in a charity event at their club raised over £1,000 to help Ukrainian Children.

Nigel Bailey and Gary Sloane, members of Thornbury Golf Club, staged a golf day and raffle at the club to raise much-needed funds and raise awareness for the children.

The pair who have played golf together for over forty years hosted the day at the club and said they were pleased to raise so much money for a 'very worthy' cause.

Twenty-seven players joined the rounds and played the course in groups of three, with prizes given for the best scores.

Nigel said: "We were lucky to be blessed with good weather and the course was in fabulous condition.

"A variety of prizes were available in the raffle, with the main prize being sponsored by Dick Lovett of Bristol, who kindly donated a “BMW Z4 for a weekend” experience.

"This was won by Club member Sue Healey who cannot wait to take this car for a spin."

The duo have now raised more than £1,100 following some 'very generous donations.'

They worked with Save the Children who have allocated a registered charity number ensuring the monies raised go direct to Ukrainian children in need.

"Both myself and Gary have been overwhelmed by everyone's generosity and just hope this amount will go some way to ease the pain and suffering," Nigel added.

"We hope this will encourage other people through golf or any other activity to organise their own events, as our small day should have a positive effect in the long term."
