Jason Rees has quit as manager of Thornbury Town Football Club.

Assistant Gary Kemp has also stepped down from his role.

The pair joined Thornbury in 2019 and after two successful seasons both curtailed by the pandemic, were promoted to the Hellenic League Premier Division.

Thornbury then comfortably avoided relegation this season.

A statement released by the club was full of praise for the management duo.

"They were able build a team to outperform expectations and grow sustainably, whilst ensuring a legacy on and off the pitch which we hope will survive for decades to come.

"They have brought the highest standard of football to Thornbury for the first time ever and I’m sure we will continue to compete as one of the districts elite clubs for many years in future.”

The executive committee said: “We would like to place on record our sincere gratitude to Jason and Gary for all of their hard work, commitment, determination and always had the very best interests of the club at heart, managing with great pride, honour and integrity, and depart with the best wishes of everyone connected with ‘The Town.’

“Both Jason and Gary leave with their heads held high, forever friends of the club, and we wish them both every success in their future careers. They will always be welcome at The Mundy’s.”
