THE candidate for the Labour Party for the Stroud constituency at the next general election has been decided.
At an event hosted in the Sub Rooms, members have were given a choice between former South West MEP Clare Moody and Dursley GP Dr Simon Opher.
The run-up to the event was largely overshadowed by the controversy surrounding the decision not to let Stroud District Council leader Doina Cornell run in the selection process.
Yesterday Ms Cornell announced her resignation from the party.
Members have nonetheless voted for Dursley GP Dr Simon Opher as their candidate.

In a statement following his victory, Dr Opher said: "I promise to work hard for the people of Stroud Constituency.
"I feel very proud and humbled to be voted as the next Labour Parliamentary Candidate for a constituency I have lived and worked in for the last 27 years.
"Thank you to my wife and family for supporting me through this and of course thank you to my fantastic campaign team for supporting me and giving many members hope.
"I know we can follow in David Drew’s footsteps and turn Stroud red again."
