A MAN was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences after a police chase through Yate last night.

A helicopter, several police cars both marked and unmarked, chased a man through Station Road, Yate towards Coalpit Heath around 10pm last night after he failed to stop for officers.

Officers were assisted from the air as a police helicopter hovered over Yate for around an hour, using its spotlight to light up the streets as they followed a man who was driving a Ford Ka without its lights on.

A 29-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including dangerous driving, driving under the influence of drugs and failing to stop for police.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “At approximately 9.50pm, an on-duty officer reported a Ford Ka car being driven without its lights on in the Station Road area of Yate.

“When the driver failed to pull over, officers followed the vehicle until it came to a stop on the A4174 after sustaining damage at about 10pm. The National Police Air Service also provided assistance with the search.

“A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including dangerous driving, driving under the influence of drugs and failing to stop for police. He has since been released under investigation.”
