FOR anyone enjoying a staycation this summer there are many wonderful places to visit in Stroud district, and for parents seeking activities for children, through the links on the council’s website:

Last week there was news about the canal restoration project and Brimscombe Port development with St. Modwen Homes announced as the developer that the council will partner with to transform this brownfield site into a new canal-side community. St. Modwen Homes has developed some initial designs – and will be seeking feedback in order to develop a detailed planning application. The first opportunity to see the proposals will be at a public drop in meeting on Wednesday 10 August 2022 between 2.30pm and 8.00pm at Brimscombe Port Mill, Suite 5 West Suite, First Floor (with a lift available). All the designs will be shared on the council’s website following this meeting.

Finally, I was delighted to attend a presentation last week to a fantastic local group which has been working tirelessly to reduce single use plastic. Timed to coincide with Plastic Free July, the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service was presented by the Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire to volunteers from Stroud District Action on Plastic. Their work has inspired numerous groups, businesses, and individuals to take action, across the district and beyond. Do take a look at the Action on Plastic website to find out more: actiononplastic.org
