TOP hats, goggles and eccentric costumes were all on show at the Stroud Steampunk Picnic Party.

Held at Stratford Park in conjunction with the Museum in the Park on Saturday, the free event saw a steampunk market, author talks, demonstrations and games including mini cheese rolling, hobby horse dressage and tea duelling.

Steampunk takes aesthetic inspiration from the Victorian era but folds in eclectic influences.

Among the steampunk artists and crafters from across the country attending were Gregg McNeill of Dark Box Photography who demonstrated how to operate a real Victorian camera and held portrait sessions.

Other steampunk experts included author Mat McCall, artefact specialist Herr Doktor and Tom and Nimue Brown from Hopeless Maine.

A evening ticketed event included live music from Victor and the Bully, the Ominous Folk of Hopeless Maine and Madam Misfit.

John Bassett, an organiser, said: "As we are in the middle of a cost of living crisis and people struggle to have any sort of entertainment budget, we wanted to give people something to get excited about and enjoy as a community."
