PERSHORE Town were made to work hard for their first three points of the season by Bourton Rovers as goals in each half from Logan Stoddart and Jamie Clarke proved enough for Danny Janes' side.

Having been frustrated in their Hellenic League Division One opening day 3-3 draw with FC Stratford last weekend, The Plums were eager to bounce back but Bourton proved a tough nut to crack.

It took until just before the break for the hosts to break the deadlock as Stoddart scored his first goal for the club with a well-timed volley following a Joshua Willis corner.

Bourton were disciplined and sat back to try and sock up as much pressure as possible but striker Clarke was brought on by Janes and he too got his first as a Plum with a header late on to make sure of the points.

Pershore move on to four points and up into fifth in the table as their title charge looks to swing into gear.

Janes has already admitted that winning the league this season is very much the aim.

"Our objectives and standards for this season are very demanding, myself and Tom always back our teams to challenge and we thrive on pressure," said Janes.

"We want to challenge for the league this season, I'm not going to play it down like other managers and deflect from the topic, we want to win this league, but to do that we have to deliver.

"Our success last season means that teams will want to beat us, they will raise their game and performance levels."
