Pupils at Marlwood School have collected their GCSE results today.

Year 11 pupils have exceeded the performance of previous examination cohorts, with more than 70 per cent of pupils attaining five or more GCSEs including English and maths.

Many pupils attained a string of higher grades and there were notable performances from Ben Bullock, Maya Bradley, Jennifer Carnaby, Emma Champion, Laura Evans, Abigail Harris, Aron Saunders, Joseph Thomas, Darcy Tsoucalas and April Witchard. All are moving on to pursue post 16 qualifications at local sixth forms and colleges.

Headteacher Seema Purewal said: "Congratulations to all our Year 11 pupils on their GCSE results this summer. We are delighted with the outcomes.

"Our pupils worked diligently throughout the year despite the many challenges of adjusting back to ‘normal’ school life.

Gazette Series:

"They rose to the challenge, particularly during the examination season and worked hard right up to the end, conducting themselves superbly during this time, and working in school with their teachers until their very last exam was over.

"These excellent outcomes are a tribute to the very dedicated and committed staff who always go above and beyond to support our pupils as do our superb community of Marlwood parents and carers.

Gazette Series:

"But, most importantly the credit goes to this group of amazing young people, many of whom have been very resilient and overcome significant challenges during this last academic year.

"As their new headteacher, I am very proud of each and every one of our pupils in the class of 2021 and I, together with all the staff body at Marlwood School, wish them the very best for their future endeavours and the next step in their journeys."
