GARDENERS, bakers and brewers showcased their skills in a fun event in Dursley at the weekend.

The Cam and Dursley Flower and Produce Show returned to the Chantry Centre on Saturday (August 27) with entrants participating in different classes, including a children’s section and a homemade beer and wine section.

The crafts and children’s sections proved the most popular with more entrants than in previous years. But in the Flowers and Vegetables sections, the entry numbers were down, due to the hot and dry weather.

There were over 280 exhibits in seven sections and the winners of each section were:

  • Vegetables and Fruit - Helen Judge
  • Flowers - Boo Radclyffe
  • Baking - Mim Chapman
  • Preserves and home produce - Helen Judge
  • Homemade beer and wine - Symon Ackroyd
  • Crafts - Carol DuGuay
  • Childrens - James Fearns

Dursley mayor Symon Ackroyd presented awards to those who gained the most points in each section.

Visitors to the show were able to look at the display of entries and enjoy live music by steel band the Steel Appeal along with pizza and a BBQ in the garden.

Helen Judge, event organiser, said: “The sun shone and it was lovely to see people in the garden enjoying themselves.

“All in all it was a lovely day.

“I would like to send out a big thank you to the Chantry Centre for hosting the event and to all the volunteers who gave their time and effort to make the show a success.

Next year’s event will take place on Saturday, August 26 in 2023.
