LEADERS across Yate, Chipping Sodbury and Dodington read out the Proclamation of the new King in poignant ceremonies on Sunday.

At 2pm on Sunday, September 11 2022, the Mayor of Yate, Councillor Cheryl Kirby, Mayor of Chipping Sodbury, James Ball and the Vice Chairman of Dodington Parish Council, Councillor Christine Howard read out the Proclamation of the accession of His Majesty King Charles III to the throne.

In her welcoming speech heard at Poole Court, Yate, Councillor Kirby said “In an age where modern methods of communication convey news around the globe in an instant, the proclamation is no longer the means by which people learn for the first time that they have a new Monarch.

"Today, however, is one of the first occasions when communities have an opportunity to come together and reflect on the moment in our nation’s history when the reign of our longest-serving Monarch came to an end and our new Sovereign succeeded.”

Mayor James Ball said it was an honour to announce the historic event in Chipping Sodbury High Street, he said: "What a momentous day, thank you to all of those who came for the Proclamation of King Charles III in Chipping Sodbury this afternoon.

"May Her Majesty the Queen rest in full and eternal peace.

"To His Majesty the King, may your reign be long and happy.

"God Save the King."
