A RADIO station in Thornbury has applied for a small-scale DAB licence to cover the region.

Thornbury Media Community Interest Company (TMCIC), which runs the successful South Gloucestershire community radio station, Thornbury Radio, has applied for the licence which will cover a large part of the South Gloucestershire area, along with the crossroads of the M4 and M5 corridors.

Thornbury Radio already covers 45,000 people in and around Thornbury and has 15 volunteers working together at the station.

The group has been planning and in discussions locally for several months and is beginning to assemble the proposed line-up of services and planned coverage area.

TMCIC have brought in Nick Piggott from Muxnet as technical consultant and technical provider.

David Wrench, Director of Thornbury Media Community Interest Company said, “Not only will we be building on the success of Thornbury Radio on FM, the local DAB technology will extend our coverage and bring more choice to the communities of South Gloucestershire."

TMCIC are currently looking for established local community based or not-for-profit radio stations to join as part of their application, but are also looking for any service, local, regional, or national that might be interested in expressing an interest in broadcasting to this area of South Gloucestershire.

The proposed DAB service area covers listeners in and around Thornbury, Yate and Almondsbury.

Radio stations that would be interested in covering this area on DAB can contact the group via dab@tmcic.org or at http://tmcic.org/dab
