Communities across the Yate, Sodbury and Thornbury area will remember those who have given their lives for their country this week on Armistice Day, Friday, and on Remembrance Sunday.

Here is a round-up of some of the events taking place

Chipping Sodbury

Chipping Sodbury will pay its respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in two world wars and more recent conflicts at the town’s war memorial at 3pm on Sunday

Sodbury Town Council extends a warm welcome to all veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces to join the remembrance day parade, which will congregate at 2.15pm in Rounceval Street.

The parade will commence at 2.45pm.

If you wish to take part in the parade, please contact Sodbury Town Council on 01454 321336 or by e-mail admin@sodburytowncouncil.gov.uk.

Chipping Sodbury High Street and Broad Street will be closed to traffic and parking between 12pm and 4pm on Sunday and the public are requested to remove vehicles from the Pitchings prior to the road closure.

Ample parking available on the Ridings, Wickwar Road (BS37 6PQ)

Thornbury

The Thornbury remembrance parade will take place on Sunday.

It starts outside the town hall at 10am, arriving at St Mary’s Church for a service at 10.30am.

Uniformed groups have been invited to take part in the parade.

The route is slightly different this year to the pre-Covid parades in that it will commence at the town hall not Rock Street car park, parading directly down the High Street and Castle Street to St Mary’s Church.

This is to reduce the number of road closures and the impact on motorists and residents.

The road closure for the parade will be in the form of a ‘rolling’ road closure, with traffic marshals controlling the traffic ahead of, and to the rear of, the parade only.

This will mean that the disruption to residents along the parade route will be kept to an absolute minimum.

There will be a parade back to the Town Hall after the service at 11.30am.

Yate

A service of remembrance organised by the town council is being held at St Mary's Church at 10am on Sunday.
