PLANS have been submitted for over 50 retirement apartments at a former office building in Chipping Sodbury.
McCarthy Stone has submitted proposals for 56 retirement living apartments, on land at the former Mercer Office building at Hillside Court on Bowling Hill, Chipping Sodbury.
The plans would see the removal of the existing building to utilise the whole site for the new homes and associated parking.
A spokesperson for McCarthy Stone said the company is committed to consulting with the communities in which they seek to develop.
2000 residents, businesses and stakeholders were invited to a virtual exhibition in August of this year and the developers say feedback from the public consultation has helped inform the submitted plans.
The developers say research undertaken by WPI Economics indicates that a development in Chipping Sodbury, with 56 units, would likely generate around £684,000 of spending per year, £431,000 of which goes to local businesses.
Shane Paull, Divisional Managing Director at McCarthy Stone Southern Division, said: “Our proposals for Chipping Sodbury will help to address a demand for retirement accommodation in the area,
providing housing choice for older people, whilst freeing up the wider housing market for local families and first-time buyers further down the chain.
“Research shows that every McCarthy Stone apartment sold generates at least two moves further down the housing chain. This means our proposals for a 56-unit scheme in Chipping Sodbury would
likely free up 112 homes for local people at differing stages of the housing ladder.”
"Delivering specialist accommodation for older people will also deliver significant fiscal savings for the state.
"Each person living in a specialist retirement development enjoys a reduced risk of health
challenges, contributing to fiscal savings to the NHS and social care services of almost £3,500 per year.
"For this development, this equates to an annual saving of £274,400 each year for local health and social care services."
McCarthy Stone has recently submitted plans to South Gloucestershire Council.
