SLOGGERS were out in force when more than 1,000 runners took part in Sodbury's muddiest event.

Runners assembled to once again take on the bog and mud in the Sodbury Slog - one of toughest cross country courses in the country.

The brave athletes ran over 10 miles across the countryside and over the ever-popular obstacles - Boggy Bottom, the Sheep Dip, Pig Trough, and Leap of Faith and last year's new edition the Swamp.

Charles Saunders Food Service in Yate were named as the new lead sponsor for the event, which raised more than £6,000 for good causes.

Race organiser Ira Rainey said: "It was a fantastic day as always, we are really thankful to our new sponsors they have been brilliant and funded all the race cash prizes.

"This year the race raised more than £6,000 for local charities and good causes including the Rotary Club of Chipping Sodbury, Jessie May, Forest of Avon Trust, the Fire Fighters Charity, and a similar amount was also raised by directly runners for Jessie May.

"We are already looking forward to next year's race."
