A SCHOOL in the area has been named among the best in the south west by The Sunday Times.

Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School in Wotton has been named in the top 20 of all state-funded secondary schools in the region by The Sunday Times.

The school has also been ranked third among comprehensives in the region.

KLB Acting Headteacher Hannah Khan says she is 'delighted' with their success and attributes it to excellent academic and pastoral support.

“At KLB, our students are our best ambassadors,” she said.

“They will tell you they are proud to be at a school that provides a safe and supportive environment in which they can thrive through shared values of mutual respect, kindness, cooperation and a sense of community.

“They are further encouraged to develop ambition and resilience and to be the very best they can be.

“The news of our positioning in the Times guide is particularly welcome as we close a tough autumn term.

“We have finished the term with celebrations including the year seven and eight pantomime which was directed by our sixth form drama students, our Christmas market and the carol service.”

The school's A-level results showed that nearly 20 per cent of all KLB students received top grades of A*, with nearly half of all grades falling between an A* and an A.

The rankings in The Times Schools Guide are determined by the percentage of examination entries gaining A*-B at A-level and the percentage of entries returning A* and A grades, and those graded 9, 8 and 7, at GCSE and iGCSE.

Helen Davies, editor of The Sunday Times Parent Power guide, said: “These have been a challenging few years for teachers, pupils and their parents, and the success of many in our league table is testament to the stamina and support shown by all concerned.

"It is also clear that more attention is being placed on wellbeing and mental health – from meditation rooms to counselling support, even therapy dogs – and schools are being proactive to bring about positive changes.

“League tables are not the only criteria a parent can use when choosing a school, but they are a good starting point.

"We want to celebrate excellence.

"We want to champion schools that are doing wonderful work.”
