A CAM schoolboy has spoken out about how participating in motocross has helped him gain confidence after the pandemic.

Jack Masters, 9, began racing after covid at Lee Dunham's racing school near Dursley, where he fell in love with the sport.

He has been representing the region in races while competing for the Corsham Schoolboy Scramble Club and the Dursley District Motocross Club.

At the club's annual awards ceremony last weekend, he was named the most improved rider for 2022.

Jack who is a pupil at Cam Hopton Primary said: “After Covid, I really needed to focus on something.

“My confidence was low and I was feeling a little lost.

“I decided I wanted to try motocross and went down to the lead in a race school in Nibley.

“It was there that my confidence grew and I started to really enjoy riding, where I set myself little challenges each week.

Jack added: “I’m so excited for the 2023 race season. My teacher Mrs Browning is very supportive as is the rest of Cam Hopton.”

“And when I’m not riding my bike I help out at our farm.”

Jack, who will be riding a KTM 85cc, will start this year's racing season as one of his group's youngest riders. Leaving his 65cc behind because of his size and weight.

He is also entering the prestigious Bridgestone Masters which is the UK’s largest motocross championship series and also the British Schoolboy Motorcycle Association.
