A MUCH-LOVED headteacher who inspired hundreds of pupils has retired after a career spanning more than two decades.

Susan Warnock - who has been described as ‘dedicated’ and ‘compassionate’ - has been teaching at Rangeworthy Primary near Yate since September 2001.

Mrs Warnock has championed different causes at her time at the village school encouraging children to participate in coaching, sports tournaments and many residential and day trips.

A moving celebration assembly was held on Friday (March 31) celebrating Mrs Warnock’s career.

Pupils presented Mrs Warnock with gifts, cards and flowers, sang songs and shared their special memories.

Sue first joined Rangeworthy Primary 22 years ago as a class teacher. She later served as deputy head for a number of years before being named headteacher in January 2021.

Mrs Warnock described her time at Rangeworthy as ‘special’ and ‘rewarding’.

“It has been a privilege to have taught at Rangeworthy School and to be part of this special community,” she said.

“I would like to thank all of the children, parents and staff, past and present for making my time at Rangeworthy so rewarding.”

Mrs Warnock has also been praised for her interest in STEM and has also provided opportunities for the children to experience exciting science weeks and workshops.

She also helped update and redesign the school’s playground and outdoor play area.

School administrator Ginette Smart said: “Sue is a compassionate, caring and inspiring teacher and leader, who has always put the children at the heart of everything she does.

“She has always been passionate about ensuring that the children at our small village school have a range of life affirming opportunities.

“The whole school community past and present wish her all the best for a truly well-earned retirement.”
