A CALL has gone out in Thornbury to dress the town in red, white and blue ahead of the King’s Coronation next month.

Thornbury Town Council is encouraging families and households to make their own bunting triangles, which will eventually be joined together and used to create colourful decorations.

Residents can print or pick up templates from the town hall and use bits of old fabric, jeans, sheets, or even curtains, according to organisers.

It comes as the town council is also organising a Coronation community picnic in Mundy Playing Fields on the historic day on Saturday, May 6.

The coronation ceremony of King Charles III and Her Majesty the Queen Consort will be shown on a massive television screen in the fields.

Members of the public are also being encouraged to bring a picnic, and there will be activities for children, including a royalty themed dressing up competition and various nature activities.

Marquees will also be provided to guard against the weather.

Meanwhile, a Coronation Lego and craft event is due to take place on Saturday morning at Thornbury Library, attendees will be making palaces, carriages and crowns.

The Swan is also hosting a big lunch event on the same day in collaboration with local food businesses, craft stalls and local music groups. Some profits will be donated to New Siblands School to help them reach their £8,000 goal for a new piece of equipment.

Other coronation events are also set to take place in Oldbury-on-Severn, Yate, Chipping Sodbury, Old Sodbury and Little Sodbury.

A Coronation concert is also being performed by Thornbury Choral Society and Camerata in St Mary’s Church on Saturday, May 13.

Bunting triangles should be dropped off at Thornbury Town Hall by Thursday, April 27 for inclusion.

The town council is also appealing for volunteers to help sew up the finished flags into the bunting during the week commencing May 3.
