A CALL has gone out in Cam and Dursley to dress homes in red, white and blue ahead of the King’s Coronation next month.
Community organisations - including GL11 Community Hub, along with local churches - are organising free bunting fits to give away to households.
They are now urgently asking for donations of fabric to fill the kits as well as volunteers to help make them.
It comes as a plethora of Coronation celebration events have been planned in the area on Saturday, May 6.
Celebrations in Dursley
The coronation ceremony of King Charles III and Her Majesty the Queen Consort will be broadcast at St James's Church, Dursley.
Afterwards events are taking place across Dursley town centre including a cake baking competition and shop front window competition.
Other activities and games have been planned, as well as food and craft stalls in the Market Place and Parsonage Street.
Celebrations in Cam
Meanwhile, Cam Parish Council have organised a family fun day at Jubilee Playing Fields with a dog show in partnership with Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home.
Categories include His Majesty and Her Highness, Mini Royal and of-course Best in Show.
The coronation ceremony will also be broadcast at the fields on a huge LED screen.
There will be a Regal fancy dress competition for children aged between 4 and 11-years-old.
Other activities include food and craft stalls, dance acts, face-painting and pony rides.
Drinks and treats will also be available from charity Hjalpande Hander, which gives young adults with special needs the chance to get paid work.
Cllr Glyn Gough, chair of Cam Parish Council’s Recreation and Leisure committee, said: “We are very much looking forward to celebrating this historic national event.
“We will be welcoming our community to our beautiful Jubilee Playing Field for an afternoon of fun, lots of activities and even a live outdoor broadcast of the Coronation.
“We were really pleased to secure additional funding from The National Lottery to help fund this project, and hope that our community enjoys the celebrations.”
Sam Herniman, Individual and Community Fundraiser for the Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home, said: “This event is an incredible opportunity for us to be among the community as we celebrate the King’s coronation as well as raising essential funds and spreading awareness for the animals here at the Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home.”
Dursley Running Club have also announced that entries are now open for the Coronation Running Festival 2023 taking place in Berkeley on Monday, May 8.
