A NEW restaurant which has opened in Yate has been hailed as a ‘great success’ by its first customers.

Italian restaurant Antica Roma has just opened on the site of the White Lion in Church Road.

Serving pizza, pasta and other Italian food, the restaurant has been well-received by the community.

It replaces what was the White Lion pub, which closed in December 2020.

A spokesperson for the business said: “We are thrilled to have opened our doors in 2023 to bring you a taste of Italy like never before.

“Our restaurant is a haven for foodies seeking authentic Italian cuisine, with a diverse menu which caters to different dietary preferences and requirements.”

Customer Danielle Chiddy said: “Me, my partner, mum and nan recently visited and I have to say it is an absolute godsend to have something like this in Yate.

“The food was incredible, the staff were extremely professional and the standard of the food was excellent.

“I would highly recommend to anyone who hasn’t visited before.

“It’s clean, modern and it has a lot of variety on the menu.”

Another, Jakub Seroka, said: “As soon as you walk through the door you are treated with a lot of respect.

“The service there is outstanding.

“The menu is full of great choices, the food tastes amazing and the prices are very reasonable.

“It is a place where you want to tip the staff for their efforts and service rather than because you have to.

“It is an amazing restaurant and I will be returning very soon.”

News that the historic building was going to be used for hospitality was welcomed earlier this year by MP Luke Hall and Yate North district councillor Ben Nutland.

Antica Roma is open between 12pm and 2.30pm and and 5pm to 10pm from Monday to Friday.

On a Saturday and Sunday it is open from 12pm to 10.30pm and 12pm to 9pm respectively.
