PUPILS from Marlwood School sang, danced and dazzled judges during their annual talent show.

The event Marlwood’s Really Got Talent, organised by Friends of Marlwood, returned to the Alveston school on Friday, May 12.

Mr Hulin, a former pupil and teacher, was among the judges, as were Mrs Berrington and Mr Sargent, both current teachers. Meanwhile, Paris Troy of BBC Radio Bristol hosted the evening.

The event was introduced by a performance by the Marlwood Samba band.

12 different acts then performed including vocalists, dance performers, piano soloists, cello soloists, drummists, vocal duets and electric guitar soloists.

Although not competing for a prize, a group of Marlwood teachers also joined in with their own performance.

At the end, Akira Paterson from year 11 won the judges' vote, singing and performing  Somewhere Only We Know by Keane.

Meanwhile pianist Daniil Honcharuk won the audience's vote.

A spokesperson for Friends of Marlwood School said: “It was wonderful to see students supporting and encouraging each other throughout the evening.

“It’s not easy to get up on stage and perform in front of a packed hall. And everyone went home buzzing with happiness and a smile on their face.

“Our thanks go to the pupils who were supported backstage by their peers; they did an incredible job.

“MGT really is a fantastic community event, and all monies raised will go towards funding the summer musical being held at the school.”

Talent show judge Mr Sargent said: “This year’s Marlwood Got Talent was my first ever and one I’ll never forget!

“There were so many amazing performances and I was blown away and in some cases left speechless!

“There were some very well-deserved winners and an incredibly well put together evening. Thank you all!”
